My classroom is the place that I call my second home for around 200 days every year. I feel comfortable there and I want my students to have that same sentiment about room 208. Through my graduate experience at North Carolina State University I have learned new ideologies that I want to use to re-shape how I run my classroom. I think that these ideas will lead to a more positive learning environment for each of my students no matter their background, ability, learning style, or personal interests.
Below I have attached an assignment that I completed in ECI 550 with Dr. Beal. We did a study on James Beane and specifically his ideas on the democratic classroom. I loved what he had to say, and the benefits of the democratic classroom were so evident that I immediately started implementing his ideas into my room. The assignment was to write twelve truisms of Beane's work.
In ECI 508 Teacher as Leaders I worked to educate myself on becoming a leader in my field and learned why doing so is so important. I learned that to be a strong teacher I should become a leader in and outside of my classroom. My job is to teach and to work with my students, co-workers, administrators, and district level leaders to improve the level of education our children receive. This gives me the great opportunity and awesome responsibility to demonstrate to my students how to work positively with people unlike yourself. Below I have attached a paper that I wrote for ECI 508 discussing my beliefs of teacher leadership.
